The Best Restaurants to Visit in Sun Valley

Sun Valley is a town in Idaho known for its mountains and ski resorts. Its mountains are Bald Mountain and Dollar Mountain and they each have pretty much lift-line free existences all winter long. They have a 26,000 square foot family center that offers lots of different amenities to visitors. They have many restaurants on site with menus full of fresh and gourmet options that can entice anyone. The restaurants also vary in price, so there’s something for anyone no matter the budget. 

There are plenty of fun things to do there in the winter and the summertime. During the wintertime you can ski on the mountain slopes, and during the summertime you can go hiking, biking, fishing, and golfing. On top of these fun physical activities, they also have cool things that guests can do indoors. You can always go see a show or enjoy what they have to offer at their day lodges. Each of the lodges offer different foods and activities. 

At the River Run Day Lodge, they serve wood-fired pizzas, salads, and sushi, and at the Warm Springs Day Lodge they serve great breakfasts and lunches along with fresh baked cookies each day. At the Seattle Ridge Day Lodge, you’ll find grilled steaks, fish, and burgers for lunch time, and at Carol’s Dollar Mountain Lodge, they have breakfast and lunch that will work for just about everyone. If you’re looking for food outside of the lodges, it will not be difficult to find. Sun Valley has a few great restaurants that serve up great views and amazing options. 1. Konditorei Bakery and Cafe

Austrian inspired cuisine and bakery.

Konditorei Bakery and Cafe is an Austrian inspired restaurant that serves fresh baked, locally sourced, and fair trade foods. They have pastries, organic coffee, and delicious hot cocoa. They also offer classic dishes for anyone interested in something other than continental cafe fare. Their dishes are made to bring you to an alpine state of mind and are served in a chalet inspired dining room. 

This bakery and cafe incorporates sustainability into every part of its practices. The manager has been recognized as a hero when it comes to sustainability by the NSSA. They also received a 3-star certification from the Green Restaurant Association. Energy efficient appliances are used as well as the locally sourced food. They also spread the word of sustainable practices to other nearby restaurants. So if you visit Konditorei, you’ll be supporting some great practices. 

On the menu, you’ll find Austrian biscuits and gravy, bacon chilaquiles, and nutella crepes and waffles on the breakfast menu. On the lunch menu, they have chicken and spaetzle soup, chicken salad croissant, and a konditorei cobb salad. They also have a really large selection of drinks. They have coffee, cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks.

2. The Roundhouse

The Roundhouse is America’s original mountain top dining experience. It sits on top of Bald Mountain atop the roundhouse express gondola at 7,700 feet of elevation. This restaurant has been around since 1939, serving up amazing views, great meals, and warming drinks the whole time. It is a seasonal restaurant that typically operates during the winter months. 

At the Roundhouse, you can enjoy your lunch by a warm fire. So much of what they offer is meant to keep you warm as you take a break from enjoying the slopes outside. If you’re having lunch at this restaurant, you may have to take a ski lift to get there. To have access to the restaurant, you either have to take the ski lift or get a foot traffic pass to enter. During dinner time, they like to offer a four-course prix-fixe dinner you’ll be glad not to miss. 

On the menu, you’ll find starters, salads, and sandwiches. If you’re in the mood for a sandwich, some of your options are the Cubano, a lamb burger, and a smoked salmon BLT. Their starters and salads include melon gazpacho and roundhouse caesar salad. They also have a long list of wines and beers to choose from.

3. Village Station

Italian and American fare with great menu options.

Village Station serves up Italian and American cuisine. They offer seating indoors and outdoors, so you can enjoy their food in the perfect atmosphere for you. They also offer curbside pickup for customers who can’t enjoy a meal inside the restaurant at the moment. This restaurant offers daily happy hour deals on food and drinks. You can get $6 beers, draft wines, and margaritas along with $9 burgers and appetizers at half off. 

Their menu contains starters like breaded four cheese ravioli, caprese flatbread, and pomodoro gratin. They also have salads and burgers that include a chicken and avocado salad and the mushroom swiss burger. And then there are the pastas, pizzas, and entrees. You can’t go wrong when you order spaghetti bolognese, seafood fra diavolo, or the meat lovers pizza.

4. The Ram

The Ram is Sun Valley’s original restaurant. It has been serving customers a great experience since 1937. The venue has been modernized in recent years, but has still kept up its historic charm. You’ll feel as if you traveled back in time in more than one way when you’re at this restaurant. Along with the historic ambiance, they have a pianist that plays throughout your meal and the “Heritage menu,” a collection of historic dishes. 

The menu has many unique offerings. For starters they have Spanish octopus and sunchoke chevere tart. For a main course you can have the duck yolk ravioli, Alaskan halibut, or the beef tenderloin. Or you can try out the heritage menu and eat the way people did at The Ram in decades past. Try the pork tenderloin schnitzel or the Hungarian goulash. They also have a great list of drinks along with desserts like strawberries & cream and sticky toffee pudding.

5. Gretchen’s

Gretchen’s restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. It offers a relaxing indoor and outdoor feel with easy access to the terrace in the summertime. It's also named after the first American to win an Alpine Olympic gold medal, Gretchen Fraser. She was an amazing athlete just like Gretchen’s is an amazing restaurant. 

Some of the favorites of Gretchen’s menu include biscuits and country gravy, huevos rancheros de inez, and the Denver omelet. You can also try a croissant sandwich, the Sun Valley granola parfait, and steel cut organic oatmeal. Their sides include a half grapefruit, hash browns, eggs, and maple sausages. They also have a great choice of beverages. You can try the hot apple cider, chai tea latte, or hot chocolate.

6. Sun Valley Club

Lunch restaurant with exceptional wrap around views.

The Sun Valley Club is one of the best places in Sun Valley to enjoy lunch. It offers some of the best views. It has a wrap-around patio that overlooks Bald Mountain, the Sawtooth Putting Course, and the Trail Creek Driving Range. It has an open air atmosphere that feels casual. It's a great idea to check this place out if you’re in Sun Valley. 

Sun Valley Club’s menu offers starters, salads, and mains. As a starter, you can get hummus, shrimp cocktail, or the soup of the day. The salads include the clubhouse shrimp louis, apple & prosciutto, trail creek caesar, and for a main you can have chicken souvlaki, Vietnamese pulled pork, and the clubhouse burger. They also have a great selection of non-alcoholic beverages like chai tea and coconut water.

Sun Valley is a place where families can have lots of fun out in the sun and snow. Before and after all that fun, everyone is going to need something to eat, and thankfully Sun Valley has many great options for food. The resorts offer food during the early parts of the day, and nearby restaurants offer great food all day. As long as you go to one or more of these restaurants during your trip, you certainly won’t be disappointed!
