Tondee’s Tavern

Number One On Our Haunted Restaurants in Savannah List is Historic, Haunted, and Family-Friendly

7 East Bay St | Downtown | tondees.com

The original Tondee’s Tavern has a legendary patriotic past – located on the corner of Broughton and Whitaker Streets from 1770-1785, the OG Tondee’s witnessed some defining moments in our nation’s history. According to some reports, the Declaration of Independence was read aloud for the first time in the state of Georgia in the 18th-century tavern by Savannah’s Sons of Liberty.

Now located at 7 East Bay Street, the “new” Tondee’s location still has plenty of history to offer. The building was originally a bank in the 1850s and served as City Headquarters during the Civil War.

Featured by several Savannah ghost tours and haunted pub crawls, Tondee’s Tavern is considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in Savannah. It’s a frequent stop for ghost hunters, who regularly report significant EMF fluctuations in the building.

“Wow! We are so glad we chose this restaurant as our last dinner in Savannah during our stay. We originally came to this restaurant based on the reviews for the haunted history & relaxed atmosphere. We ended up loving it for those reasons, but even more so for the food! Everything we had was absolutely delicious! ” - Yelp Review

The Pirates’ House

Abscond with a Treasure Trove of Tasty Food and Drink as Well as a Sea Tale or Two

20 E Broad St | Downtown | thepirateshouse.com

As an important historic port city, Savannah has seen its fair share of seafarers – savory and unsavory alike. The Pirates’ House dates back to 1753, and just a block off the river, it quickly became a popular spot for sailors and pirates to rest for the night, enjoy some grog, and share terrifying tales from the seven seas.

The Pirates’ House has reportedly been the scene of murders, brawls, kidnappings, and all sorts of other events that might leave some spooky spiritual energy hanging around.

“My girlfriend and I made dinner reservations for our anniversary and were greeted at the front desk with such an inviting atmosphere. Everyone we came in contact with wished us a good meal and smiles as they sat us by the haunted tunnel, which was so cool! I didn't notice any ghosts, but I did notice how amazing the corn bread, biscuits, and NY strip meal was! Thank you so much to The Pirates' House for creating an outstanding anniversary dinner!” - Yelp Review

Unfortunately The Pirates’ House isn’t one of the haunted restaurants in Savannah participating with GiftYa just yet, but check back soon cause they might be any day now.

17Hundred90 Inn and Restaurant

Stop in for a Bite or Stay for the Night at Savannah’s Famous Haunted Hotel

307 E President St | Historic District | 1790restaurant.com

Looking for a spooky place to stay after an evening of food and drinks? Then 17Hundred90 Inn and Restaurant is sure to be what you’re looking for. According to the establishment, three known ghosts haunt its halls:

  • Anna, a young woman arranged to be married who had fallen in love with a sailor in the 1800s. Legend has it she leapt to her death from a third floor window, but other reports suggest that her spurned husband-to-be pushed her
  • Thaddeus, a young boy sometimes spotted on the ground floor and in the tavern
  • Another unnamed spirit that is less friendly than the others, who usually sticks to disturbing kitchen staff by throwing pots, pans, and spice jars around

“Adorable brick-walled locals spot. Dim lighting. Off the beaten path. Has a haunted Inn above it. Clean bathrooms. Very courteous bar staff. Didn't eat here but came here twice on our trip for the bar. 100% will be back. Has several TVs if you need them. Drinks are NOT overpriced. Walkable from all main areas of downtown.” - Yelp Review

You can’t get a digital GiftYa gift card to 17Hundred90 Inn and Restaurant at the moment but be sure to check back soon as new haunted restaurants and locations in Savannah are added all the time!

The Olde Pink House

High Quality Food and Dozens of Ghosts for Haunted Restaurant Hunters to Encounter

23 Abercorn St | Savannah | theoldepinkhouserestaurant.com

Originally known as the Habersham House, The Olde Pink House was built by the wealthy and influential Habersham family circa 1771. As you might expect, this old building has experienced a lot of history first hand: it survived the fire of 1796 as well as three wars, despite being seized and occupied on multiple occasions.

Over its history, several of the building’s owners kept slaves, many of them children. Many of these children passed away before reaching adulthood due to diseases such as Yellow Fever. The spirits of these children are said to still haunt the house, playing and causing mischief.

Additionally, the ghost of John Habersham Sr. himself (as well as his wife) is said to reside in the house. There have also been reports of a weeping young woman on the second floor after the tavern clears out at night.

“Excellent food from what was described as the most haunted house in the United States.  I had the fried chicken and it did not disappoint.  Afterward, take some time to tour the house, especially the basement, where the staff had plenty of stories to share.  The service was excellent and we will certainly be back.  Be sure to make your reservations early.  We did not, so we ended up eating at 10:00 p.m.” - Yelp Review

Moon River Brewing Company

Sip Seasonal Ghost-Inspired Brews at One of the Most Historic and Haunted Spots in Savannah

21 W Bay St | Downtown | moonriverbrewing.com

The building that Moon River Brewing Company calls home is one of the most historic and haunted in Savannah. Dating back to City Hotel, which was opened in 1821 by Elazer Early, it was originally home to both the first hotel and the first post office in Savannah.

According to the company’s website, the hotel was visited by several notable guests over its long history, including war heroes, famous naturalists, and a live lion and lioness brought in by the owners in the 1850s to drum up some business. Moon River Brewing Company has been featured in a number of paranormal investigations, including Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost Adventures, and is a popular stop on several of Savannah’s ghost tours and haunted pub crawls.

“Fantastic food and they DON'T skimp on the portions. Fun environment, and loved hearing about the hauntings. All the cocktails were a hit, as were the entrees, but the nachos appetizer was the best part. 4 people could get full just off these.” - Yelp Review

Circa 1875

French Gastropub with a Frightening History

48 Whitaker St | Downtown | circa1875.com

Can you make a deal with a ghost? According to the folks at Circa 1875, you can. When the French bistro and gastropub first opened, the restaurant reportedly experienced a number of mysterious happenings: spooky noises, items vanishing into thin air, the lights flickering out.

Owners called in a spiritualist who discovered that the building had been used to store slaves before the civil war, and the lingering spirits wanted to be assured that the building would never be used for such evil purposes again. The owners, of course, readily agreed – they wrote up an agreement, which hangs in the building’s wine cellar to this very day.

“If you want to escape the young bar hopping crowd, I suggest Circa 1875. It has more of a sophisticated and intimate atmosphere, no noisy music and rarely has the drunk college kids; a perfect place for cocktail hour. It is, however, a stop on the haunted pub crawl, so you may momentarily be harassed by tourists.” - Yelp Review

Right now you aren’t able to get a GiftYa digital gift card to Circa 1875 but check back because there’s more haunted restaurants and stores in Savannah added all the time.
