Did I say family free? Sorry Fruedian slip, what I meant to say, is you get high quality authentic Mexican food in a family friendly environment. And that is what pushes Tres Machos over the other excellent restaurants on our list today. There are plenty of fancy and high end restaurants that really limit their clientele options because they are so uptight and stiff. It’s hard to bring a baby or a two year old out to a five star restaurant. But you don’t have to worry about that at Tres Machos. They are a family friendly environment so even if you have to bring the rugrats along with you, you will still be able to get a high quality authentic Mexican dish served up by a friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere.

There are a few things I like about Abuelita’s. The first thing that I love is that it is in a neighborhood called “Midlothian,”, which frankly sounds like a place in Middle Earth, so as a huge Tolkien nerd that definitely scored them some brownie points with me. 

But aside from me being a giant nerd, there are several other things to love about Abuelita’s. First of all you know it’s authentic when even the Yelp! Page is in Spanish. Authenticity is the name of the game at Abuelita’s and they start from the feet up. They have fresh guacamole made everyday and a rotating menu of specials throughout the week.

Abuelita’s stakes the claim that Mexican food is more complex and creative than many people realize. So they strive to push the boundaries of quality, freshness, and complexity in their dishes. Potros Mexican restaurant comes in third today on our list, and really the only reason for that is they don’t share a ton of information online about the restaurant outside of the menu. So I can’t comment on their business practices, or history.

What I can comment on is the fact that they have a four and a half star rating on Yelp, which is significantly higher than a lot of restaurants you find. I almost didn’t include Potros Mexican Restaurant on the list today because I couldn’t tell you much about them. However, when a restaurant has a four and a half star rating, and you are trying to provide your audience with the absolute best Mexican restaurants, you can’t really skip one that is so highly reviewed. It’s hard to narrow it down to only five options sometimes so Pepe’s had some serious competition making it into the last spot on the list today. But the real reason it made it is because it had a higher number of positive reviews than the other competing restaurants. In fact it boasts a four and a half star rating with nearly 350 different reviews. Which is phenomenally consistent. When even the internet can’t find something to complain about you know the restaurant has to be doing something right. 

The only thing you will have to watch out for is that Pepe’s is actually closed every Sunday. You can stop on any other day of the week to get a fantastic meal, but unfortunately you are going to be out of luck if you try to go on Sunday. So if you do send a GiftYa to somebody for Pepe’s just make sure they know that in advance. Wouldn’t want them to get there and end up hungry and disappointed because they are closed.
