The aptly named Bottoms Up Pizza is located in the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood in Richmond. This pizza joint serves signature and create your own pizzas, pockets (calzones), pasta, and burgers and sandwiches. They offer gluten free crust as well as a variety of vegan toppings to put on your pizza or in your pasta dish. The vegan toppings include vegan cheese, vegan chorizo sausage, vegan pepperoni, vegan ground beef, and vegan chicken. PSA: the gluten free crust is not vegan, it contains eggs.

Pig and Brew prides itself on being the “Best BBQ South of the James.” Co-owners Lamont Hawkins and Lamarr Johnson are a pit-master with 20+ years of food experience and a mixologist, respectively. Let’s just say, we trust them!

Start off with an order of the Hillbilly Fries, fries topped with cheese, bacon & NC style pork bbq. Then move on to your main entree from favorites like the Smoked Wingettes, the St. Louis Spare Ribs, the Smoked Brisket, and the Meat Lovers Trio—your choice of three meats from brisket, ribs, smoked wings, fish, pulled chicken, or pork bbq.

The sides that come with most plates are just what you’d expect at a BBQ spot—mac and cheese, potato salad, collard greens, corn bread, baked beans, and more.

Guests also love ordering their salads because they serve them with their homemade vinaigrette. It’s delicious, and you know it’s made with real ingredients and care because they make it in-house. It’s also nice to order a salad to get some veggies in if you don’t like them on top of your pie!

9. Carytown Burgers and Fries

This isn’t your average burger joint, they’ve been voted best burgers and fries in town by the Richmond Times-Dispatch a number of times over the years, and most recently in 2019. Each one of their burgers is hand ground and hand formed into 1/3rd lb patties from fresh, never frozen meat sourced exclusively from Schweid & Sons.

Their burgers are undeniably good and high-quality, but they also have delicious chicken sandwiches, crispy fries, and a variety of vegan and vegetarian options like soy-based and black bean burgers, vegan chicken, salads, and more.
